Abolition 2000
In 1995 IALANA co-founded Abolition 2000, an international network of over 2000 organisations which have endorsed the founding document calling for the conclusion of a nuclear weapons convention, an agreement on the elimination of all nuclear weapons.
The Network aims at providing groups concerned with nuclear issues a forum for the exchange of information and the development of joint initiatives. The Abolition 2000 Network meets once a year and communicates on an ongoing basis via a number of list serves and through conferences, teleconferencing, and periodic mailings.
Abolition 2000 members are active in promoting nuclear abolition resolutions at local, national and international levels.
Abolition 2000 works with Mayors for Peace to engage mayors around the world in the Vision 2020 Vision for the conclusion and full implementation of a nuclear weapons convention by the year 2020.
Abolition 2000 has an international coordinating committee, a global council and separate working groups on various issues. IALANA manages the working group on a Nuclear Weapons Convention, which reports on progress toward the achievement of a Nuclear Weapons Convention and on feedback on the Model Nuclear Weapons Convention.
